Absolute Exclusions

all claims costs in this category, including indemnity and defense, are paid from the district general fund.

“In flight” operations of aircraft, including but not limited to:

  • Transportation/rides
  • Aircraft demonstrations
  • Helicopter rides, flights, and helicopters moving while landing on school sites
  • Hot air balloons/balloon rides

Nuclear facilities and materials

“Radioactive properties”

Activities Limited by Gaps in Coverage

Note:  claims costs in this category, including indemnity and defense, up to $250,000 are paid from the district general fund.  Claims costs exceeding $250,000 may be paid by VCSSFA's reinsurance companies.

Adopt-A-Highway clubs

“Automobile” and/or Motorcycle/motor bike racing

Bungee jumping and bungee runs, and other activities involving bungee cords including, but not limited to activities that combine bungee cords with automobiles, trampolines, or rebounding devices.

Activities with catapult-like motion
exception:  pole vaulting in official track and field events

Hang gliding

Parachuting or skydiving


Road rallies


Trampolines and mini-trampolines (exception for special education)

Underwater activities, including but not limited to: 

  • Scuba diving

  • Underwater construction, demolition, and/or welding
